Guidelines for Sustainable Soil Management coming up!
On 27th May 2016, the Global Soil Partnership (GSP) endorsed a set of voluntary Guidelines for Sustainable Soil Management, marking a step towards coordinated action to assure that the earth under our feet - a keystone of global food security - remains fertile. The Voluntary Guidelines for Sustainable Soil Management are on track to be presented to the FAO Council for adoption in December 2016.

‘Why Soil Matters? - A European perspective’
In April, the final proceedings of the congress ‘Why Soil Matters? - A European perspective’ were published. The congress was held in November, the end of the Year of Soils, in the European Parliament. The report higlights the potential of agro-ecology for climate goals and the need for EU soil regulation.

Doug Tomkins 1943 - 2015: a force for nature
We are very sad to share the news that soil hero and environmental activist Douglas Tompkins has died following a kayaking accident in Chile. Doug spoke at the Save our Soils Conference in Amsterdam in June and was as always inspiring and thorough. On behalf of the Save Our Soils movement we send our heart felt condolences to his family and friends.

"This park will be lost in 45 seconds"
Press release - On December 5, World Soil Day, signs started popping up in parks around European cities. "Castle Park will be lost in just 30 seconds" said a sign in the old park in Bristol, UK. In Stromovka Park in Prague, Volkspark Friedrichshain in Berlin, Porta Nuova in Milano, and Vondelpark in Amsterdam, similar warnings were spotted.
